  • 2 medium apples (Granny Smith or Gala) – peeled and diced into ½-inch pieces
  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ cup milk
  • 8 oz. brick-style cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together flour, oats, light brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and melted butter for the crisp topping.
  3. In another bowl, toss diced apples with granulated sugar and cinnamon for the filling.
  4. For the bread batter, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in one bowl; in another bowl, beat room-temperature butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time with vanilla extract and milk, then combine with dry ingredients.
  5. Mix cream cheese with granulated sugar, flour, vanilla extract, and egg until smooth for the filling.
  6. Layer half of the bread batter in the prepared pan followed by half of the apple filling and cream cheese mixture; repeat layers. Top with crisp mixture.
  7. Bake for about 60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool before slicing.
