  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 large egg, beaten (divided)
  • 6 oz almond paste
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place the thawed puff pastry on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a bowl, mix the almond paste, softened butter, granulated sugar, and half of the beaten egg until smooth.
  4. Spread the filling down the center third of the pastry. Cut diagonal strips on both sides.
  5. Fold the pastry strips alternately over the filling to create a braided effect.
  6. Brush the top with remaining egg and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
