  • 1 whole turkey (1215 pounds)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 10 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Remove the turkey from its packaging and pat it dry with paper towels.
  3. In a bowl, mix the softened butter with minced garlic and herbs until well combined.
  4. Gently separate the skin from the breast and spread half of the herb butter underneath; then rub the remaining butter over the outside of the turkey.
  5. Season the cavity with additional salt and pepper before tying the legs and tucking in the wing tips.
  6. Place in a roasting pan and pour chicken broth into the bottom.
  7. Roast for about 13 minutes per pound until an internal thermometer reads 165°F (75°C).
  8. Baste every 30 minutes during cooking to keep it moist.
  9. Allow to rest for at least 30 minutes before carving.
