  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley or 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, onion powder (if using), salt, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in the freshly shredded cheddar cheese gently into the mixture.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg until well combined.
  6. Add your wet ingredients to the dry mixture and mix until just combined.
  7. Spoon the dough into your prepared loaf pan in chunky layers.
  8. Bake your loaf for about 40-45 minutes or until it's golden brown on top and a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center.
  9. While it's still warm, brush the top with melted butter mixed with garlic powder and parsley.
  10. Let your loaf cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it onto a wire rack.
