Ingredients

Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour plus extra for dusting
  • 1 cup warm water about 110°F
  • 1 packet active dry yeast 2 1/4 teaspoons
  • 1 tablespoon sugar to activate yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
Herb Mixture
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
Topping
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese for topping
  • 1 tablespoon parmesan cheese for garnish

Method

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add olive oil, salt, and flour gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape and Bake
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Sprinkle the herb mixture evenly over the dough and roll it tightly into a log.
  4. Place the log seam-side down on a baking sheet and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and parmesan cheese on top before baking.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool and Serve
  1. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes.
  2. Slice and serve warm as a side or for sandwiches.
