A comforting dish of tender ground beef patties smothered in a rich mushroom and onion gravy.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce for patties
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard for patties
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/3 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • to taste pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for frying
  • 1 medium onion sliced or chopped
  • 8 ounces cremini mushrooms sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 3/4 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce for gravy
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder for gravy

Method
 

  1. Prepare all ingredients by measuring spices, chopping vegetables, and having everything within reach.
  2. Combine all ingredients for the patties in a bowl and form into four oval-shaped patties.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet and brown the patties for about 5–6 minutes on each side.
  4. Sauté onions and mushrooms in the same skillet until seared and moisture has evaporated.
  5. Make the gravy base by melting butter and sprinkling in flour, stirring constantly.
  6. Whisk in beef broth gradually until smooth.
  7. Add Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder to the gravy, adjusting seasoning as needed.
  8. Combine the sautéed onions and mushrooms with the patties in the gravy and simmer for 5–7 minutes.
